The Cruelty of Foie Gras The Cruelty of Foie Gras

Show Your Support Against Foie Gras at Lark Restaurant: EVERY FRIDAY 7-8PM

When:       EVERY Friday until they remove foie gras from their menu
Time:
7:00pm - 8:00pm
Where:
     Lark Restaurant
Address:   926 12th Ave, Seattle (map)

Questions:  E-mail volunteer@narn.org

What is foie gras?
Foie gras is an extremely cruel product. It is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese, causing their livers to expand to several times their normal size. Long metal pipes are shoved down their throats and a large volume of corn mash is pumped into their stomachs. This results in debilitating pain for the birds and a mortality rate so high that many of the birds never make it to slaughter.

Do any restaurants in Seattle sell foie gras?
There are several restaurants in Seattle that serve foie gras. The Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN) is currently only publishing the contact information of restaurants that have met with their representatives and refused to remove this inhumane dish from their menu.

The following restaurants support animal cruelty by serving foie gras:

LARK at 926 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122. (206) 323-5275: Chef Sundstrom

CRUSH at 2319 E. Madison Street, Seattle, WA 98112. (206) 30-CRUSH: Chef Jason Wilson

35TH ST BISTRO at 709 N. 35th St., Seattle, WA 98103. (206) 547-9850

SEATTLE CAVIAR COMPANY at 2833 Eastlake Ave. E, Seattle, WA 98102. (206) 323-3005

How can you help end the cruel force-feeding of ducks and geese?

♥ Attend a demonstration against a restaurant that serves foie gras. Check out NARN's calendar to see when the next one is scheduled.

♣ Call, e-mail, or visit the chef of a restaurant that serves foie gras and politely ask him or her to reconsider including this inhumane dish on the menu.

COLA'S Annual Dog-O-Ween COLA'S Annual Dog-O-Ween

Saturday, October 23, 2010

COLA (Citizens for Off-Leash Areas) is planning its 11th annual Dog-o-Ween costume contest and ‘fun’draiser.

Come and support the cause.

TIME:           11:00am - 2:00pm
WHERE:      Genesse Park (directions)
Address:    4500 S Genesee St, Seattle
More info:   Toni @ dogoween@coladog.org

If you can, your help is also needed to make this year's event even more spectacular. COLA is also looking for support in the following areas:

    * Assistant Event Coordination - love details, details, details?  Want to make things happen?  This is the spot for you.  Someone willing to help oversee the various details of making this day come together.  You don't have to do it alone; COLA is here to help, they just need someone who can assist and focus on making this event a success.
    * Assistant Donation Wrangler - there will be raffle prizes, contest prizes and much more to secure!  With your help, COLA can raise more money to do the things that really need to get done in the parks. Assistance is needed in contacting businesses to secure donations for this event, as well as help with phone calls, item pick up, making prize baskets, etc.
    * Dog Park Work Party – Come out on Saturday, October 16  from 10 - noon to help clean and spruce up Genesee Park off leash area before the big event.
    * Wrap and Stuff Party – give a helping hand from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday October 17 to put together the ‘goodie’ bags for the costume contest entrants (and their owners) and to make/wrap the prize and raffle baskets.
    * Day of Event - Sell raffle tickets, assist with the costume contest participants, handle the concessions booth for drinks & snacks.  Give a couple hours for the set-up, during the event, or help take it down. Bring your dog and join the party!
    * DONATE!  Make a basket that can be used to raffle or give as a contest prize for the winning costumed friends.  Donate a gift certificate from your favorite restaurant or business.  Items do not have to be specifically dog related.
