Nina's Choice

It was in October 2007 when I decided to start volunteering because I love dogs and wanted to help. At that time, I was unable to adopt another dog.  Volunteering for Animals First Foundation, I fell in love with so many of the dogs - Nina wasn't one of them.

Oh sure, I had my favorites but again, I knew I couldn't adopt any one of them because I was kept busy enough with my one crazy dog, Billy.  I was going up to the facility to play with the dogs pretty much every weekend.  Nina kept searching me out and she would stick to me like glue, looking up at me with those beautiful, soulful eyes of hers.  She just kept working on me and working on me; it was as if she chose ME.  I had nothing to do with the decision, she had already decided.

Flash forward to July, 2008.  Nina has a history of severe allergies and they were flaring up badly.  I agreed to foster her to see if she would improve with a special diet and more diligent monitoring.

Three days after I agreed to foster her, two people contacted AFF who were interested in meeting Nina and possibly adopting her.  I struggled with that for about a day, and then decided, "No Deal" she was staying with me.

I couldn't possibly let this sweet girl go.  Each time I look at her, I am reassured that I made the right decision.  She is a perfect fit in my house and with Billy.  Nina is such a good, good dog and I absolutely adore her!
